Topic: Elliptical / Political / Post-Confessional: Writing Poems for the 21st Century

This is a graduate-level course in poetry writing. About half the class will be devoted to discussion of readings, including several collections by contemporary poets, and essays on poetics in the 21st century. These readings will help inspire and inform the poems written for class, and the way we discuss and revise your work. Written assignments include poems, workshop comments, a poetry portfolio, and a mini-anthology of poems from a particular school or mode of poetry.
